Old Faithful as seen from the "non-crowd" side.

Posted by
Denny Jump (Bellevue, WA, United States) on 7 July 2010 in Landscape & Rural.

I caught this last year on the walk around geyser basin. On the far ridge, to the right - you can see where the fires hit several years ago - that was just one of the many locations.

Incidentally - based on a few requests, please stay tuned for a few more images of BODIE State Historic Park (California) which I will post on July 9 and 10 - Doing this for those of you who told me that they were intersted in Bodie. Thanks to all for your patience and comments.

- " We do not move forward from a middle opinion, which is undemocratic but mediocratic.
We advance from a creative passion "- (Edgar Morin)

- "To photograph is to hold one's breath, when all faculties converge to capture fleeting reality. It's at

Cruz from exurbia, United States

Great Shot!!! You know I love Yellowstone...and getting this from the non-crowd side is special. Great job!

@Cruz: Thanks Cruz - just another one of a million Old Faithful shots, but you are right - at least this doesn't show the 5,000 people on the other side.

JJ from Jersey City, United States

Such a beautiful shot of it erupting, would love to visit this area someday

7 Jul 2010 7:28pm

@JJ: Hi JJ - I thought I sent a reply but it did not seem to go through so anyway, I just wanted to say thank you and recommend that you do try to get there one day. The geyser has just a wee bit more force than the average fire hydrant in the Iron Bound (duhhh).

Steven from Chicagoland, United States

Great call to capture this from the "non-crowd" side. It helped you capture the shadows cast by the geyser and also highlights the fire damage of the far ridge in good detail.

7 Jul 2010 8:21pm

@Steven: Yes even in my advanced state of senility, I had the notion to find my way around and get it from behind and yes the inclusion of the fire ridge, while unplanned, was fortunate. Thanks Steven

Stephen Phillips from San Francisco, United States
