Climber Atop Mammoth Rock - Joshua Tree N P

Posted by
Denny Jump (Bellevue, WA, United States) on 10 October 2010 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

As one of the final concentrated views I will be showing on Joshua Tree's rocks, this is probably a good one to begin with. This is Mammoth Rock and as you can see, the climber has just finished his ascent - but what goes up must come down. Assumming this fellow is about 6 ft tall - the rock face seems to be about 80 - 100 feet high, but I may be way off. I certainly have no plans to measure it first hand!. This giant rock facing is just one of many reasons why the park is so popular with climbers, and it is also a great example of the rock development through the ages as well.

** Staples Singers - "Respect Yourself"

- " We do not move forward from a middle opinion, which is undemocratic but mediocratic.
We advance from a creative passion "- (Edgar Morin)

- "To photograph is to hold one's breath, when all faculties converge to capture fleeting reality. It's at
that precise moment that mastering an image becomes a great physical and intellectual joy."
- Henri Cartier-Bresson.

::Words from Denny:
- My beliefs, and values, have always been strongly tied-to music, especially Jazz, and Blues.
- The following artists and lyrics seem to "sum-up" where my spirit resides:
EARTH WIND AND FIRE;
"HOLD ON TO YOUR SPIRIT,
ALWAYS FEEL YOUR SOUL....
HONOR THE MAGIC IN YOUR HEART"
; Earth Wind and Fire
