Rock-in Bow at Mid -Day

Posted by
Denny Jump (Bellevue, WA, United States) on 11 December 2010 in Landscape & Rural.

I grabbed this image on my lunch hour one day about 4 weeks ago when there was still plenty of fall color around. We are fortunate to have some woods and small creeks nearby, so I often use my lunch hour to tromp around with camera and tripod. This particular creek has a small bridge crossing over it, but there was just way too much brush in front of the bridge to try and include it, so I decided to simplify things. I began looking closer at the elements....As I looked up the creek I noticed - under and just beyond the little bridge - these rocks. Playing around with exposures, I liked how the scene looked when it was tightly zoomed-in, so I decided to just concentrate on this. I slowed the shutter (pulled the old f22 trick to still the water) and with the lighting that was available, I grabbed this photo...Again, this was a "mid-day shot" (see my comment above about "lunch hour") but the mostly yellow leaves really plopped a nice yellow hue onto the water...So here it is! Since I am a "cubicle slave," I have to grab the shots when I can. I really liked the rocks in the lower right because, with the leaves in the middle there the whole thing looks like a bow tie! I hope you enjoy!

Julie Brown from Indianapolis, United States

Don't you just love the yellows and greens of autumn. The colors are nicely reflected in the water. How nice for you that you can get out at lunch and lose yourself for a bit in nature. You probably feel more relaxed when you go back to your cubicle.

12 Dec 2010 1:24pm

@Julie Brown: No I'm just ticked off because I had to stop taking pictures!! Thanks Julie - Have a great day...are you frozen yet? It ispouring rain here now and tomorrow we get the freeze etc etc etc

@Tamara: Hi Tamara - Thank you so much. I took this shot over 4 weeks it is pouring rain, maybe a relief for the cold for one day....I LOVE your flower image today - just spectacular!

Julie Brown from Indianapolis, United States

Denny, why did you have to stop taking pictures? Is it because of your time crunch, or is it the weather? We are getting the rain, snow, and the cold now too.

12 Dec 2010 2:25pm

@Julie Brown: Hi Julie - Sorry I just meant (in response to your point about being refreshed upon returning to work) that I am "ticked" at the end of the noon hour becasue I have to stop taking shots and get back to work...Although my current time crunch is imposing for sure too...but I am slipping in as much picture taking as I to SFO in a few weeks...Barbara is out there now ;-)

Franz from Baden, Austria

well, i can say i throroughly enjoy it! i think the colors are spectacular, and the rocks certainly do resemble a bow tie! i also like the hint of perspective provided by the bit of bank!
