Tyler at the Jersey Shore

Posted by
Denny Jump (Bellevue, WA, United States) on 18 April 2011 in People & Portrait and Portfolio.

Sunday we took a drive over to the Jersey Shore at Long Branch, NJ (by way of Carlo's Bakery of TV Fame in Hoboken, NJ...Carlos had a line literally 1/4 mile long so we blew that off and drove "down the shore")

This is a view of Tyler, our 11 year old middle grandson, as he walks across the rocks in a rather presidential mode..The waves were extreme and a few surfers were out.. I will try to feature a few more images from the shore visit in the coming days .

** Staples Singers - "Respect Yourself"

- " We do not move forward from a middle opinion, which is undemocratic but mediocratic.
We advance from a creative passion "- (Edgar Morin)

- "To photograph is to hold one's breath, when all faculties converge to capture fleeting reality. It's at
that precise moment that mastering an image becomes a great physical and intellectual joy."
- Henri Cartier-Bresson.

::Words from Denny:
- My beliefs, and values, have always been strongly tied-to music, especially Jazz, and Blues.
- The following artists and lyrics seem to "sum-up" where my spirit resides:
; Earth Wind and Fire

Phil Morris from Canada

Such a beautiful and brilliant portrait where the walk is so peaceful to the violent
turmoil of the waves crashing down in the background. Would also make a great
painting, this wonderful combination.

@Phil Morris: Hi Phil - Thank you so much...I like thie one for exactly the same reasons.. thanks again, very much.

k@ from Paris, France

The backdrop seems so wild and Taylor so wise, the opposition in such a soft sunny light & chill is really enjoyable in the mood it offers, Denny.

@rem_la: Oui, les vagues étaient énormes! Il y avait des surfeurs sur leur Bords et ils ressemblaient à des fourmis! Merci beaucoup pour votre gentil commentaire ..

Curly from South Shields, United Kingdom

How can anyone looks so calm when the wind and the waves are so tumultuous?
You have captured this well including the spray whipped up above the waves.

Scene by Sharon Photography from Kingston, Ontario, Canada

Phil has summed things up beautifully (as he always does). The power and strength, against the calm and serene ... lovely image

18 Apr 2011 10:24pm

@Scene by Sharon Photography: Phil is like that song by Carly Simon "Nobody Does it Better"...don't you think? Thanks very much and don't drink al that Guinness!! I have heard stories about you people from Kingston ;-)

Steven from Chicagoland, United States

What a beautiful capture of such animated and forceful waves. And I love the mist that sprays up in the air due to their force. And to see Tyler so nonchalant makes this all the more intriguing.

18 Apr 2011 10:34pm

@Steven: Hi Steven - Thank you so was a pretty cool situation with the waves (perhaps I should have elaborated at the top) - the wind was going offshore and strong...the waves were comig onshore (of course) and strong si it was a case of irresistable force meets immovable object...we had just had a ferocious storm on Saturday which set the stage for this phenomenon..we just went to the beach on a whim...Thanks again my friend..;-)

Nina from Chester County, Pennsylvania, United States

DJ this is great - and I am fond of anyone named Tyler ;) Can't wait to get to the beach and put my toes in the sand. Love how you captured the wave mist....just lovely!
