Sand Raking is Really Hard Work - Self Portrait

Posted by
Denny Jump (Bellevue, WA, United States) on 12 June 2012 in People & Portrait.

Ya know, Zen Sand gardens are really beautiful to see. However, after raking 50 square metres of beach sand (here, at Sandy Hook National Seashore) and then enduring the Park Rangers as they descended upon me asking what the hell was I doing, I needed a break! I told them I was just trying to get some colour in my legs, but I was then reminded that I am a "skin cancer-prone" kinda guy (recent facial surgery to wit), so I simply sat down to rest.

PS - Now, this is a Silly Tuesday post, so everything I said is a lie.... except for the Skin Cancer part and except for the fact that this really IS Sandy Hook National Seashore (a beautiful spot). I don't do many of the Silly Tuesday numbers, so I thought I woud give this a shot...Lord knows, I am goofy enough as it is...I normally don't really need a Tuesday for an excuse to be goofy! Cheers!

OH BY THE WAY: Lest anyone be thinking that I am out cavorting while Barbara is in San Francisco, this picture was actually snapped a few months ago when we traveled "down the shore" ( as they say in New Jersey) for a glimpse at Sandy Hook .

** Staples Singers - "Respect Yourself"

- " We do not move forward from a middle opinion, which is undemocratic but mediocratic.
We advance from a creative passion "- (Edgar Morin)

- "To photograph is to hold one's breath, when all faculties converge to capture fleeting reality. It's at
that precise moment that mastering an image becomes a great physical and intellectual joy."
- Henri Cartier-Bresson.

::Words from Denny:
- My beliefs, and values, have always been strongly tied-to music, especially Jazz, and Blues.
- The following artists and lyrics seem to "sum-up" where my spirit resides:
; Earth Wind and Fire

Richard from Ellemford, United Kingdom

Ronnie 2¢ from Atlantic Shores, United Kingdom

I think you covered all the bases here, Denny. If the Infringement Case comes before a judge, be sure to read this out ! If you are right lucky, it will be heard on a Tuesday when sentences can be lighter.

12 Jun 2012 6:24am

@Ronnie 2¢: When they check my voting record and left-leaning politics - I won't have a chance! But thanks Ronnie2 :-)

Judy aka L@dybug from Brooksville, FL, United States

I was going to write something really silly in keeping with the day, but my heart actually 'fluttered' a bit when I read this really IS at Sandy Hook. Our daughter lives maybe 20 minutes south and west (Rumson/Fair Haven) of the Rt 36 bridge that you probably used to enter Sandy Hook. It's a beautiful place to walk the miles of sandy beach.

12 Jun 2012 12:35pm

@Judy aka L@dybug: It si gorgeous, Judy...Let's plan to meet up there one time :-) Thanks so much - ps - Sorry about the beetle...

Rick from Toronto, Canada

12 Jun 2012 3:03pm

@Rick: Took this when we visited in early April - it was windy and really cold- we had windbreakers up over our heads to soak in the sun and block the lovely legs bore the brunt...thank god no goosebumps showed...Thanks man!
