This is Raymondskill Falls, which lies within the beautiful Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. At 180 total feet in height (the falls have three drop sections) these are the highest falls in Pennsylvania and they are only about 4 feet shorter than Niagara Falls.
Barbara and i visited these falls about three weeks ago (just before she left for San Francisco). I thought that this image (and tomorrow's image) might provide a good break before I move on to the few shots of Philadelphia that I want to post.....In the coming weeks, I will be showing several more images from Raymondskill Falls, as well as other waterfalls I have visited in eastern Pennsylvania (incidentally, the waters in the many of the streams in the Appalachians and Poconos have lots of tannins in them, that's why you see the brownish tint in some of the falls in the pool below).
Tomorrow another "random" shot , but then on to Philadelphia!
** Staples Singers - "Respect Yourself"
- " We do not move forward from a middle opinion, which is undemocratic but mediocratic.
We advance from a creative passion "- (Edgar Morin)
- "To photograph is to hold one's breath, when all faculties converge to capture fleeting reality. It's at
that precise moment that mastering an image becomes a great physical and intellectual joy."
- Henri Cartier-Bresson.
