Downbeat

The Conductor has raised his baton and now comes the mighty downbeat.

Off they fly, screaming, honking, singing. They all work as one, while working alone, as well.

I kept this view at a distance because I wanted to try and convey the vastness of this giant swath of geese as they explode from the surface of the water. You can see, even with the thousands that have taken to the air, there are still many thousands more just floating there!

Knowing this rather large reservoir as I do, the mass of geese - including those that are completely out of view as it stretches to the left (west) probably covered a length of 1/4 mile, or so, from end to end! My guess would be that, from above, we would likely see a solid white spot on the lake that would be about 60 meters wide by around 300 meters long - more than three US style Football fields, stretched end to end. And in this huge spot I estimated that we were witnessing probably somewhere between 10 and perhaps as many as 20 thousand Snowgeese.

The sight and sound of all this was simply exhilerating and uplifitng.
It was as beautiful as a John Coltrane ballad; as Exhalting as an Oscar Peterson solo; as Magical as a Bobby Hutcherson flurry of mallets across the keys of his vibraphone;....It was.like a trip to paradise for the soul.

Tomorrow - a slightly closer look.

** Staples Singers - "Respect Yourself"

- " We do not move forward from a middle opinion, which is undemocratic but mediocratic.
We advance from a creative passion "- (Edgar Morin)

- "To photograph is to hold one's breath, when all faculties converge to capture fleeting reality. It's at
that precise moment that mastering an image becomes a great physical and intellectual joy."
- Henri Cartier-Bresson.

::Words from Denny:
- My beliefs, and values, have always been strongly tied-to music, especially Jazz, and Blues.
- The following artists and lyrics seem to "sum-up" where my spirit resides:
EARTH WIND AND FIRE;
"HOLD ON TO YOUR SPIRIT,
ALWAYS FEEL YOUR SOUL....
HONOR THE MAGIC IN YOUR HEART"
