Winter Meets Spring

Posted by

Sometimes the transition from Winter to Spring can be like transitioning from a loud and dramatic Musorgsky symphony to a moving and emotional Nina Simone ballad. Sometimes the beautiful but powerful winter can abruptly push us into the soothing and uplifting spring. Certainly, both seasons are loved and embraced for their own kind of beauty, just like the very different, but equally masterful musical geniuses that I noted.

Seasonal transitions are, of course, inevitable. Each season gives way to the next during that great procession of nature's wonders. To me, the beauty of a passing season takes up residence in my heart especially during these periods of transition. With geat delight, I reflect on the special charms of the passing season while looking forward, with anticipation, to what is yet to come in the new.

But, if they did once, the seasons can, no longer, promise us these things all by themselves. They no longer possess this ability, thanks to mankind! Our poor treatment of the earth becomes more and more crucial to the nature and "health" of the seasons. Some may not yet believe this point, but I certanly do. I believe It is up to all of us to do whatever we can to help preserve the promise of beauty that is delivered to us by each season.

In her own special way, a season gives us joy and beauty. But the future of that gift is becoming ever more dependant upon our activites, as well.

** Staples Singers - "Respect Yourself"

- " We do not move forward from a middle opinion, which is undemocratic but mediocratic.
We advance from a creative passion "- (Edgar Morin)

- "To photograph is to hold one's breath, when all faculties converge to capture fleeting reality. It's at
that precise moment that mastering an image becomes a great physical and intellectual joy."
- Henri Cartier-Bresson.

::Words from Denny:
- My beliefs, and values, have always been strongly tied-to music, especially Jazz, and Blues.
- The following artists and lyrics seem to "sum-up" where my spirit resides:
EARTH WIND AND FIRE;
"HOLD ON TO YOUR SPIRIT,
ALWAYS FEEL YOUR SOUL....
HONOR THE MAGIC IN YOUR HEART"
