"Stands Against The Wind" - (Lakota Sioux)

Posted by
Denny Jump (Bellevue, WA, United States) on 11 July 2013 in People & Portrait.

As I was working with this image I was impressed at the single strand of wheat standing straight up toward the sky.... The phrase "Stands against the wind" instantly and dramatically popped into my mind!.....SOMETHING was telling me that I had heard these words before! I said to myself "This HAS to be a Native American or First Nations phrase".

With all of that going around in my mind, I decided to do a word search of the phrase. And When I did, sure enough, I bounced onto an ABC television web post from a few years ago that I actually remembered seeing. How Incredible!.....The connections between our memory and our soul are amazing communicators!

The report focused on a young Lakota Sioux girl named Louise Clifford - her Indian name is "Stands Against The Wind."

If you would like to read about this report and the young girl of this same name, (she would be about 15 by now), feel free to click on the link below...Here, below, I have included a short exerpt from the story about Louise Clifford, an incredible young Lakota (Sioux) girl from South Dakota.

"Louise draws her strength from the Lakota culture she cherishes. She tells us her Indian name is Tatay Hiana Jueeli, which means “stands against the wind.” She says, “I’m just one weed that stands high and all the others always blow down, but not me. I’m strong. I have a lot of power. And I’ll never go down no matter what. Even in a wind storm, I’ll never fall over.”

We advance from a creative passion "- (Edgar Morin)

- "To photograph is to hold one's breath, when all faculties converge to capture fleeting reality. It's at
that precise moment that mastering an image becomes a great physical and intellectual joy."
