New York City - Always at Odds

Posted by
Denny Jump (Bellevue, WA, United States) on 28 July 2013 in Cityscape & Urban.

Here is, perhaps, a somewhat different angle of view of this great city. I captured this image several months ago. We are looking in a North-Northeasterly direction (believe it or not :-) from the New Jersey side of the Hudson River.

The bridge that you see extending across the frame is a walking (mostly) bridge that extends from the Jersey side on the left), onto the Hudson River, and out to "Liberty Island" (to the right) where the Statue of Liberty is situated. I don't really remember seeing any shots from this angle but Iam certain that plenty of them have been taken by somebody. But this IS sort of a disconcerting perspective isn't it? That's actually why I was so intrigued with it when we were out there and I took the shot :-)

The skies were largely overcast and really rather "blah" that day. I processed this just a bit in Snapseed Drama to give the clouds a rather domineering affect on the city and scene.

Happy Sunday Everyone! Let me know what you think of this one :-)

** Staples Singers - "Respect Yourself"

- " We do not move forward from a middle opinion, which is undemocratic but mediocratic.
We advance from a creative passion "- (Edgar Morin)

- "To photograph is to hold one's breath, when all faculties converge to capture fleeting reality. It's at
that precise moment that mastering an image becomes a great physical and intellectual joy."
- Henri Cartier-Bresson.

::Words from Denny:
- My beliefs, and values, have always been strongly tied-to music, especially Jazz, and Blues.
- The following artists and lyrics seem to "sum-up" where my spirit resides:
EARTH WIND AND FIRE;
"HOLD ON TO YOUR SPIRIT,
ALWAYS FEEL YOUR SOUL....
HONOR THE MAGIC IN YOUR HEART"
