New York City - Always at Odds

Posted by
Denny Jump (Bellevue, WA, United States) on 28 July 2013 in Cityscape & Urban.

Here is, perhaps, a somewhat different angle of view of this great city. I captured this image several months ago. We are looking in a North-Northeasterly direction (believe it or not :-) from the New Jersey side of the Hudson River.

The bridge that you see extending across the frame is a walking (mostly) bridge that extends from the Jersey side on the left), onto the Hudson River, and out to "Liberty Island" (to the right) where the Statue of Liberty is situated. I don't really remember seeing any shots from this angle but Iam certain that plenty of them have been taken by somebody. But this IS sort of a disconcerting perspective isn't it? That's actually why I was so intrigued with it when we were out there and I took the shot :-)

The skies were largely overcast and really rather "blah" that day. I processed this just a bit in Snapseed Drama to give the clouds a rather domineering affect on the city and scene.

Happy Sunday Everyone! Let me know what you think of this one :-)

We advance from a creative passion "- (Edgar Morin)

- "To photograph is to hold one's breath, when all faculties converge to capture fleeting reality. It's at

Beautiful shot, Denny. Nice to see the city from a different angle than usually.

N.Y. offers good chances for equally effective and yet different interpretations. I like the very strong graphical aspect here, it's almost a poster and those clouds convey a kind of surrealistic atmosphere.
Quite a nice result.

I love this shot, Denny. The clouds and the white bridge really add to the scene a lot.

an unusual angle indeed, but then all angles are great with a background like this!
i think the bridge forms a clever diagonal-like line across the image that brings "life" to the river. as to the sky, you did well to dally with it . plus, i like the tall buildings on either side !
