Elliott Bay and Seattle Landmarks

Posted by
Denny Jump (Bellevue, WA, United States) on 5 September 2013 in Business & Industry.

Here, we have an EXTREMELY compressed and very "utilitarian" view of the eastern sweep of Elliott Bay. The entire bay has a very pronounced "Horesehoe" shape. Seattle's primary "tourist" and Commercial waterfront rests in the "bottom" (eastern side) of the Horseshoe. What we are looking at here, is on the left or southern prong. The Pier 91 area I spoke of yesterday is way around over to the right (Northwest) of this point. Almost in back of us in this view.

The city of Seattle is to the left of this scene, as I noted. The brown building directly in front of us is one of the tourist Piers that houses gift shops, restaurants, and the like. Further beyond all of that, we see a huge ferris wheel, temporarily present for the summer season and for the "Bumbershoot Festival" which occured just last weekend. "Bumbershoot" as it is simply referred-to by locals, has a compilation of events includng concerts, run/walk races, and a variety of other activities that take place all around Seattle.

The massive sttructure to the right of the wheel is Century Link Stadium, home of the Seattle Seahawks Football (American Football) team, and to the right of that stadium is yet another stadium: Safeco Field, home of the Seattle Mariners, national League Baseball team.

These shots were admitedlly "mid-day" shots, so please accept my apologies for the lack of atmospheric drama :-)

** Staples Singers - "Respect Yourself"

- " We do not move forward from a middle opinion, which is undemocratic but mediocratic.
We advance from a creative passion "- (Edgar Morin)

- "To photograph is to hold one's breath, when all faculties converge to capture fleeting reality. It's at
that precise moment that mastering an image becomes a great physical and intellectual joy."
- Henri Cartier-Bresson.

- My beliefs, and values, have always been strongly tied-to music, especially Jazz, and Blues.
- The following artists and lyrics seem to "sum-up" where my spirit resides:
EARTH WIND AND FIRE;
"HOLD ON TO YOUR SPIRIT,
ALWAYS FEEL YOUR SOUL....
HONOR THE MAGIC IN YOUR HEART"
