Land of the Frozen Gnomes

Posted by
Denny Jump (Bellevue, WA, United States) on 2 January 2014 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

I captured this right from Amy's back yard looking off to the east. The frost and ice were still quite prevalent when I shot this on Christmas Eve. Reviewing it on my laptop, the entire scene reminded me of a mythical land where those little gnome-like people dwell. Happy New Year to all!

** Staples Singers - "Respect Yourself"

- " We do not move forward from a middle opinion, which is undemocratic but mediocratic.
We advance from a creative passion "- (Edgar Morin)

- "To photograph is to hold one's breath, when all faculties converge to capture fleeting reality. It's at
that precise moment that mastering an image becomes a great physical and intellectual joy."
- Henri Cartier-Bresson.

::Words from Denny:
- My beliefs, and values, have always been strongly tied-to music, especially Jazz, and Blues.
- The following artists and lyrics seem to "sum-up" where my spirit resides:
EARTH WIND AND FIRE;
"HOLD ON TO YOUR SPIRIT,
ALWAYS FEEL YOUR SOUL....
HONOR THE MAGIC IN YOUR HEART"
; Earth Wind and Fire

Doug from Burnham-on-Sea, United Kingdom

Beautiful capture of this amazing fairyland Denny, it shows perfectly how photography can capture the moment that could be missed with just a glance, if that makes sense !

2 Jan 2014 7:52am

@Doug: It does (make sense), sir - very definitely - and that is exactly my feeling too :-) Thank you so much for your words, Doug! Well. it's Back to Work this morning for me...groan!

Hi Den, this is just beautiful. I love the spot of sunshine right in the middle of this very cold-looking picture. That's my professional opinion-- (insert "laugh"). Please give all the family a big hug for David and me and we hope 2014 brings health and happiness with a little sensibilities thrown in. love to you all, peggy

@peggy n: Hi Peggy - Thank you so much..the light landed right on those trees which are about 1/4 mile away and I was really happy with how this frame turned out - Our love to you guys as well and we will stay in touch :-) Love you both so much !! <3 D&B

john4jack from Corvallis, Oregon, United States

wonderful light! (one of the things about that D800 is not so much the bells and whistles as that its excellence demands so much more of the photographer. those 36MP don't give you the same leeway as your old camera. all of your mistakes are magnified. plus, the high resolution of the D800 calls for pro grade glass. if it had been 24MP and had had an 8 frames/sec. frame rate, i would have been sorely tempted. you should have a lot of fun in the years to come.)

2 Jan 2014 5:59pm

@john4jack: Yes right now anything "good" that I am getting is probably just "Dumb Luck," but I will keep what you say in mind for sure... and will keep trying to learn more. Thanks so much, Jack!
