Confusion.....

Posted by
Denny Jump (Bellevue, WA, United States) on 17 January 2014 in Abstract & Conceptual.

My Journalism professor at California State University, Sacramento, was William Dorman. Bill was a marvelous and very inspiring man. He encouraged us to "think outside the box" LONG before that phrase was ever coined! He encouraged us to dwell, not on what was being put in front of us as "the truth," but rather, to learn for ourselves what the the message and truth might be. The phrase I can still remember hearing him say was his rendition of a familiar concept dating back to Socrates....Bill would say it like this:"Remember, Confusion is the Pre-Condition to learning!" The point is that, initially, we may be unsure and confused. But if we really study and absorb, and avoid the dogma, that surrounds us sometimes, the confusion will lead to understanding.

For some reason, these icy branches - all crossed up, with the sun shining through them - made me think of Bill. What a brilliant teacher he was.

** Staples Singers - "Respect Yourself"

- " We do not move forward from a middle opinion, which is undemocratic but mediocratic.
We advance from a creative passion "- (Edgar Morin)

- "To photograph is to hold one's breath, when all faculties converge to capture fleeting reality. It's at
that precise moment that mastering an image becomes a great physical and intellectual joy."
- Henri Cartier-Bresson.

::Words from Denny:
- My beliefs, and values, have always been strongly tied-to music, especially Jazz, and Blues.
- The following artists and lyrics seem to "sum-up" where my spirit resides:
EARTH WIND AND FIRE;
"HOLD ON TO YOUR SPIRIT,
ALWAYS FEEL YOUR SOUL....
HONOR THE MAGIC IN YOUR HEART"
; Earth Wind and Fire

Basile Pesso from Barcelona, Spain

Excellent picture and text....confusion I don't know, but yes, let us not forget that manipulation is absolutely everywhere, that the truth is not univocal, that it changes, and that the "evil people" that are shown to us are not necessarily so evil...actually sometimes they even are the opposite, and the "good" people are very often the opposite...I'll add that the question of language is very important and that a lot of interpretative mistakes that we do are due to the difference of language.

@Basile Pesso: Hi Basile - Thank you So very much for your wonderful words and comments...I completely agree with you and your very eloquent commentary....especially the point you make about evil people and the deception about them I completely agree...Thank you So very much sir!
