Dr King's Light.

Posted by
Denny Jump (Bellevue, WA, United States) on 20 January 2014 in Lifestyle & Culture.

Today is a day that we should take special time to remember and never forget: Dr Martin Luther King Day.

I will certainly never forget that day when we learned that Dr King was assassinated....I was in Vietnam and it was 1968..The "Old Boy" racist, "redneck" bigoted attitude was Strong.They were celebrating and shouting.
Then, there were those of us: Soldiers of all cultures, and backgrounds, who were silent, stunned, and disgusted.

But, Dr King's words and spirit and his importance have far outlived the rants from those who believe more in intolerance than the quest for tolerance. Dr King's dream is alive, I feel, but much work is still to be done.

So, today, I ask, only, that we stop...just for a moment...and dwell on ALL the men and women who have dedicated their lives to peace, freedom, tolerance, and understanding. And remember, especially, Dr King.
Reverend King, we DO believe! And we still do share that dream!

** Staples Singers - "Respect Yourself"

- " We do not move forward from a middle opinion, which is undemocratic but mediocratic.
We advance from a creative passion "- (Edgar Morin)

- "To photograph is to hold one's breath, when all faculties converge to capture fleeting reality. It's at
that precise moment that mastering an image becomes a great physical and intellectual joy."
- Henri Cartier-Bresson.

::Words from Denny:
- My beliefs, and values, have always been strongly tied-to music, especially Jazz, and Blues.
- The following artists and lyrics seem to "sum-up" where my spirit resides:
EARTH WIND AND FIRE;
"HOLD ON TO YOUR SPIRIT,
ALWAYS FEEL YOUR SOUL....
HONOR THE MAGIC IN YOUR HEART"
