American Falls at Niagara

Posted by
Denny Jump (Bellevue, WA, United States) on 20 May 2014 in Landscape & Rural.

This past weekend, I visited Niagara Falls,Ontario Canada and American Falls at Niagara Falls, New York. Barbara had visited there once before, but I have never been there, and, for me, it was truly one of the most exciting and fun weekends I have ever had. This is a shot of American Falls, captured from the Canadian side of the Niagara River. During our visit there, we did all the fun tourist-type things but when taking shots of both sets of falls (American and Niagara) I tried my very best to include some angle or object or perspective that might make these heavily photographed landmarks interesting to view once more. Please let me know what you think as I post these. What a wonderful time we had. :-)

We advance from a creative passion "- (Edgar Morin)

- "To photograph is to hold one's breath, when all faculties converge to capture fleeting reality. It's at
that precise moment that mastering an image becomes a great physical and intellectual joy."

amazing shot! i can really feel the power of thunder of the Niagra falls as the water comes crashing down! capturing the bird in flight gives this scene a very spiritual and almost mystical feeling...

@DarkElf: Hi DarkElf. Thank you SO much for this comment. I was unable to articulate this feeling myself, but your words - and Doug's below - are exactly what my spirit was feeling....and still does. Thank you very much :-)

Doug from Burnham-on-Sea, United Kingdom

I love how you've captured them with the bird in the foreground, I love the contradiction between the peace of the bird and the power of the falls Denny

@Doug: Denny Jump Photo from Easton, PA, United States Hi Doug - You and DarkElf have "put the hammer right on the nail" here :-) This is exactly the mix of feelings that I have too. The bird can be a distraction to some "purists" out there. But, to me, he brings the image together! Peace and Love, sir....and Thank You so much! And now, it's off to work after a 4 day respite....oh well.

Julie L. Brown from Indianapolis, Indiana, United States

Hi Denny. The volume and power of the water is evident. Glad you have a good time on your trip.

Hi Denny. My first thought of this photo was about the bird flying in front and how I would never have thought to focus on the bird! In fact of the many photos I have taken of the falls, I don't think there is a single one with the peace of a bird soaring in the mist. I am sure you have been an artist in many lifetimes as you are able to always so gracedully find the angle and express what stirs your heart about our material world!

@Jerri: Hi Jerri - Thank you so very much. You are wayyy too kind about me but i sincerely appreciate it :-) we had a great time and I, now, can not wait until we go back. Barbarar's sister is coming out in September, so we are planning on going back then...Thanks again, Jerri:-)

Steve Rice from Olympia, United States

@RBL: Thanks Ruthie - we had a magnificent time...I highly recommend staying on the Ontario see, but either way it is a fantastic (albeit full of tourists this time of year)trip to take :-) I have lots more to show because I really want folk's opinions..Hugs to you and the fan....and this doggies :-)

Elaine Hancock from Rockville, United States

Fabulous image Denny! I visited there for the first time few years ago. Amazing and awe inspiring. All that water and power!

@Elaine Hancock: Definitely! Very filled with tourists but if you allow your self to moe away from that fact and just enjoy the falls, you are calming! Thanks Elaine - hope you're doing well :-)

B. Thomas from Arlington, Texas, United States

It's a fun place to visit although I haven't been there in years. Cool shot.

Nicely done, Denny. The bird turns an ordinary shot of the falls into something more. Good work.
