Duplicate Sunrise

Posted by
Denny Jump (Bellevue, WA, United States) on 7 July 2014 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

A few weeks ago,I stopped at the lake near my work, I wasn't sure that things would be very photogenic. There was mid-level fog and high level clouds.It was not very exciting, The sun was completely invisible - just a glow from the sky..."flat light," one might say.

After about 15-20 minutes, I was walking back towards the car. I looked up and saw the sun peeking from between some fog and cloud layers...just a dot. The dot grew bigger and I looked down at the water and there was the reflection of the sun in the water as well! It was amazing. T

Now, I must be honest and tell you that I processed this image....all in NIK "Color Efex Pro," and "Viveza 2". I wanted to accentuate the drama that was truly present with the sun's appearance above and below. But No HDR was used here, at all..I hope you like this :-)

** Staples Singers - "Respect Yourself"

- " We do not move forward from a middle opinion, which is undemocratic but mediocratic.
We advance from a creative passion "- (Edgar Morin)

- "To photograph is to hold one's breath, when all faculties converge to capture fleeting reality. It's at
that precise moment that mastering an image becomes a great physical and intellectual joy."
- Henri Cartier-Bresson.

::Words from Denny:
- My beliefs, and values, have always been strongly tied-to music, especially Jazz, and Blues.
- The following artists and lyrics seem to "sum-up" where my spirit resides:
EARTH WIND AND FIRE;
"HOLD ON TO YOUR SPIRIT,
ALWAYS FEEL YOUR SOUL....
HONOR THE MAGIC IN YOUR HEART"

Looks to me like the mother-ship coming in to a landing, Denny . . last time, I tried to climb aboard but they rejected me under Rule 14/884 revision 6.

The processing is excellent and although it emphasies the dramatic quality of the scene it remains very natural.
Great inspiration for catching the moment. It's (sometimes) worthy waiting for the good moment.

Hi brother, What a lovely shot to put out there on your birthday! I sent you an email saying that our b'day card is coming. But back to this photo --- the reflection on the water gives a nice depth to the whole thing. Love to you on your birthday --- shall I say how many? Love again. peggy

I love it. Don't ever feel guilty about processing an image. The whole point is to show what you saw and felt. You did that beautifully here, I think.

your vision for this photo is excellent and your processing emphasises that! this is a wonderful scene! processing is there to help you achieve the vision that you set out to capture and it is not something to be ashamed of...

Beautiful landscape. At first I was looking for some of the foliage on the far bank until I realized that the "reflection" was actually a bush in the water. Interesting effect.
