Veteran's Day 2014 - Troubled Times

Posted by
Denny Jump (Bellevue, WA, United States) on 11 November 2014 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio.

These are troubled times - so the saying goes;
But it's true I think....So True:

For years now, "Politicians" - or so they call themselves - have fought and bickered over petty "issues" and disagreements, calling each other unpatriotic, while the accusers have never set foot on the field of battle....never put on a uniform!

Millions of people will wake up today not even realizing what day it is......other than just..."Tuesday!"

The world will become more populated with hate and brutality....while I have brother's who's blood lies on the ground on a mountaintop in Vietnam;

The people of this world will continue to think only of themselves....
While I have brothers and sisters whose name are inscribed on a wall in Washington DC...dead;

The insanity will continue and no one will care, while I have old friends, veterans of world war II who knew the insanity of War but are no longer here to speak out.

These are troubled times! But we remember those who fought and those of us who still can speak and look at a flag and pray for our fallen comrades...we can tell them "Thank You" and God Bless You!" For, whatever the reason was, we fought - fought for all the honor of defending a population filled with cousins, brothers, sisters, wives, husbands and children.

These troubled Times go on - but so does our love for our families and for humanity.

We remember - On this Veteran's Day - we remember the troubled times, and we pray that the times will grow less troubled....we will fight for that.

- " We do not move forward from a middle opinion, which is undemocratic but mediocratic.
We advance from a creative passion "- (Edgar Morin)

- "To photograph is to hold one's breath, when all faculties converge to capture fleeting reality. It's at
that precise moment that mastering an image becomes a great physical and intellectual joy."
- Henri Cartier-Bresson.

Fine words there, Denny . . we are devoted to the sadness of the past while assuring more for the future . . 'the war to end all wars' is now 100 years ago.

franz from Baden, Austria

a brilliant photo with a "troubled" sky - how very symbolic of the troubled times!
fine and noble sentiments in your words, denny. fortunately i was spared your experiences, but i know about the horrors of war from the stories my dad told us (though he had to fight for the "wrong" side ...).
i DO hope that eventually we will learn to live without those horrors, but although i'm an optimist at heart, i fear this hope is untenable and is not supported by what we see happening around us !

@franz: Thank you so much, Franz....Your Father knew the pain and the misery...there is an argument that can be made that in a war, is any side the right side when it comes to the loss of a family member? Love to you and a salute to your dad <3

beach from Oshawa, Ontario, Canada

peggy n from woodland, United States

Beautiful photo, Denny. I hope that the hate and brutality that goes on in our world will be diminished because of all the patriots who have given their lives for those "politicians" to spout off. (Even a few of them have fought for this country which is encouraging.) The world is not as we wish it to be ---- there is evil in enemies of our beliefs for peace, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. It's something we can only fight against and the men and women who are willing to go to war and give their lives for us are true heroes of this planet. God bless all veterans. Their service is immeasurable. Love to them all. And to you, too, Den, for your service to this country. love, peggy

So true. My father fought in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam...and he's still alive and kicking at 96 years old. One of the lucky/blessed ones for sure. Nice photo, by the way. Love the color of the clouds and the evening sky.
