Birches in Waiting

Posted by
Denny Jump (Bellevue, WA, United States) on 15 December 2015 in Plant & Nature.

While the West Coast of the US thankfully receives some snow in the mountains and rain in the lower elevations, we here in the Eastern part of the US are still waiting for winter. In fact, our temperatures have been more spring-like for almost 2 weeks now, and more if the same is expected for another 5-6 days.

As a Westerner originally, I am truly grateful that the west s getting, at least some amount of precipitation! They direly need it.

Meantime, these Birches are in waiting for winter....they really don't seem to mind, though. In fact hardly anyone here in the East seems to be too upset about this great weather:-)

I rarely see snow these days in London and never the deep drifts of childhood . . just one flake last year! - all part of that changing pattern they sit in air-conditioned rooms talking about.

@Ronnie 2¢: Air Conditioned rooms, indeed :-) Funny but so true in so many ways. Here in this part of the US (and Eastern Canada too) the past 2-3 winters have been brutal, really. Friend of ours in New Brunswick province of Canada was bored in the white stuff, lost pipes and heat and wood...Here where we are in the very Eastern part of Pennsylvania, we had almost as bad...But I know you are right about at least the South of England and London Area. Weather is crazy but, as you know, there's no such thing as climate change. Thank you, Ronnie - apologies for my rant here..

what a beautiful look at the (almost) leafless crowns of these handsome birch trees ...
personally, i don't need snow here where i live ... only in the mountains, for skiing ;-)))

Beautiful shot. We could use more snow in the mountains and less rain in the lowlands. Hopefully, California will get plenty of rain and snow this winter.

Great perspective with just a few of the Autumn leaves still remaining and waiting for Winter.
